I work with the highly social East African cichlid Neolamprologus pulcher. N. pulcher are cooperative breeders living in groups typically composed of a dominant breeding pair and several helpers. For species living in social groups, the early social environment is especially important to develop the appropriate social skills. My work aims to investigate the influence of early-life social experience on social competence and social cognition in N. pulcher.
